Ares: The Relic From The Future
2004-2006. Cast Bronze and Steel. Installed at CCAT on HSU campus, Arcata, CA. This fragmented sculptural relic was recovered from the distant future and reassembled to present a lesson that transcends space and time. This partially intact bronze reenacts the moment where Ares, the relentless God of war, is lunging in desperation for the single button that triggers the only weapon powerful enough to end all wars, and thusly eliminating nearly all modern civilization. It is believed that the artist intended to show that the very embodiment of violence and blood shed will implode when there is no longer any sense or reason left in the minds of those who wage war. In other words, he has finally given up on the legacy of war which he perpetuated and is pushing his own self-destruct button.
