A Waking Dreamland Part 2
HSU Foyer Gallery
2006. This was an instillation I created with Ms. Ilana Caplan for a show in the foyer gallery at HSU, Arcata, CA. Our intent for “A Waking Dreamland” was to transform the foyer gallery into a series of fragmented dream-like environments, which put the viewer in a semi-defined miniature world. The different environments were “cross-sectioned” by white space that encourages the mind to fill in the empty areas. We chose our scale and materials to relate to a more primitive art form that we can all identify with through our early creative processes of childhood (like making sandcastles, playing with action figures and dollhouses). Our passion for imagining and fantasizing in miniature scale played a key role in creating and conceptualizing this installation. We felt that going back to a child-like imaginative state would be a fun and successful way for the viewer to interact with the art and it can appeal to anyone. This Group of photos includes the cloud world, the lake world, the tree world, and the sand castle world.
